Aluminium in the Highlands

This website tells the story of the emergence of that industry – which is also brought life by the testimony of those who worked in the smelters and lived in the surrounding communities, and by the pictures which are contained in the on-line archive.  The tale of aluminium in the Highlands resonates with significance for this region’s economy today: businesses continue to be attracted to the area by the competitive advantages that the areas’ natural resources offer, not least the immense potential of the Highlands and Islands as the future renewable energy capital of the UK.

This website – and the project with which it is associated – would not have been possible but for the generosity of those who financed it and who are acknowledged below.  I hope you have many happy hours of browsing and learning about this important industry and its people.
